The summer is almost over and winter is just around the corner. SFG Road Maintenance is in the final stretch for the 2016 dust control season.  So far it has been a very dry season, causing the number of dust control customers to rise. With that being said, I would just like to thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through our routes to make sure everyone gets sprayed in a timely manner. Thank you to all of those who remembered to take the time to make sure your flags are/were still out and visible. Those weeds in the ditch like to grow tall and cover those flags in the ditch so, a big thank you to those who were brave enough to climb in there and trim those weeds out of the way. For those of you who forgot to double check your flags, please be sure to do this next year as it as it allows myself or whoever is spraying more time to get to more customers. Thanks to all of you who decided to give your business to us and we look forward to taking care of you next season.

It’s crazy to think that summer is half way over and fall will be here sooner rather than later. Most of you that order salt are starting to receive some of it and are looking for ways to keep your salt from clumping up during these hot humid days. As mentioned in previous blogs, Beet 55® is an outstanding stockpile treatment that is rather inexpensive when you think about the amount of time and effort it takes to break that salt apart when it comes to time to load your trucks.  At 5 gallons per ton, Beet 55® is one of the cheapest and easiest ways of preventing headaches come winter time. The most economical way to treat salt is for you to do it yourself by just pumping it off of a truck or straight out of your tank onto your salt. After you have done this, make sure to mix the salt with either and end loader, skid loader, or conveyor (If lucky enough to have that setup). Once you have mixed your salt, put it back into your shed and leave your worries behind. We also offer the service of spraying salt piles within a medium range of Knoxville, Iowa. Please give us a call if you would like to learn more about this process.

Husker Plus® is now PNS APPROVED!!! The Road Maintenance department has been working tirelessly for many months, perfecting our new product Husker Plus®. Some of you might recognize this name from previous years, but know that this product has been put through vigorous testing and is now more effective, efficient and economical than the old formula. Husker Plus® is the new generation of organic deicing. Since most of you are using salt brine as your primary anti/deicing product, SFG has put that as it’s focus in creating a product that meets PNS standards while performing to your expectations when applied to the road. Husker Plus® has an inclusion rate of only 20% while being 90% less corrosive than salt brine alone. Along with this incredible corrosion score, Husker Plus® also has working temperatures from -10 to -20 degrees at this 80/20 mixture.  Many products that are sold are PNS approved, but the difference between those old products and Husker Plus® is that, when you apply Husker Plus® to the roads, you are putting a product that meets PNS standards on the roads at a very cheap per mile cost. Hardly anyone out there today puts QPL list products on the road straight due to the high cost per lane mile. Husker Plus® is a product that performs beyond expectations and saves money in the process.  As you can tell we are very excited to offer a product that is tailored made to solve most problems municipalities and state DOT’s face in every aspect of winter operations. If you would like to make your city or state a leader in winter maintenance practices, give me a call so we can solve your deicing problems today. As always, be safe out there and make a difference today.
