Their visit was timely, with 3 to 7 inches of snow forecast accompanied by dropping temperatures.
Early Wednesday they tested their products on a county roadway under the supervision of Marshall County Road Maintenance staff.
Later in the morning, with snow flying and temperatures dropping, the performed a second test on a portion of West Merle Hibbs Blvd. and surrounding streets viewed by Marshalltown Public Works employee Rick Legg.
The solutions immediately began melting snow on West Merle Hibbs Blvd.
"Both products have potential," said Jeff Roads of Marshalltown Public Works. "They did a good job of melting the snow."
Roads said he will be evaluating product costs and other factors.
Both tests used the "Rockford blend" and "Husker Plus" another specialty product, containing beet juice and corn.
Lynch said the Rockford blend is used by by many of Iowa's larger cities and those in surrounding states.
In promotional information provided by Lynch, the company highlighted a number of its products, as renewable, safe for the environment and metal vs. other deicers which it claimed accelerate metal corrosion on bridges, damages vegetation, and becomes less effective with lower temperatures.
The Knoxville based company has found a strong niche market among city and county governments that are concerned about the environment and cost savings.
Lynch said the company has satisfied costumers throughout the Midwest and elsewhere.
