Riser Starter Fertilizer

Feb 03, 2025

Planting time is still a little over two months away and there is still plenty to do before that time comes. Crop prices are rebounding a little and it is starting to get easier to pencil out a profit for this year. Most inputs have been bought, and we are now looking for ways to raise yields to help with that bottom line.

There are a lot of things we can do to raise profit margins, but we need to make sure that they work. There are a lot of snake oils out there and it is easy to get confused about what products work and which ones are a waste of money. We always field-test products out before we bring the product to you.

One product that we have always seen a good return on is Riser starter fertilizer. Riser is a 7-17-3 mix with copper, iron, manganese and zinc. Riser drives early season plant vigor and increases root mass and nutrient uptake at critical plant stages. Not only will your corn come out of the ground better, but it will have a better color and vigor than non-treated plants. Generally, we have run this product at 2.5 gallon for acre and are seeing anywhere between 10 bushels increase at the low end to 18 to 25 bushels on the high end.

If you are looking for a way to raise your profit margins take some time to talk to your SFG agronomist about adding a starter fertilizer to your program when it comes time to plant corn this season.
